When those sirens pass by, it’s hard to imagine that a fire truck could one day be speeding toward your house.

But serious injuries and deaths from fires are on the rise in BC, most of them happening from fires in homes. So when you tell yourself that you don’t need to replace the batteries in your smoke alarm, are you really telling the truth?

Having a working smoke alarm is the most effective way to prevent fire-related injuries. That’s why we’ve partnered with the BC Office of the Fire Commissioner and the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit (BCIRPU) to remind you to test your smoke alarms once a year.

Visit the BCIRPU website to learn more about this project and request a free smoke alarm replacement.
